The training is designed for responsible managers however, typically senior leaders across the buisness also attend. I have provided the training to APRA regulated insurers, Underwriting Agencies, Insurance Brokers and TPAs.
What should responsible manager training cover?
The training that I provide is tailored to my clients AFSL (and APRA as relevant) authorisation, needs and requirements however, generally responsible manager training is divided into 4 sections:
- Introduction - roles and responsibilities
- Responsible Manager obligations
- Financial Service Laws obligations
- Areas of current regulatory focus and issues impacting general insurance
and should include the following:
- the roles and responsibilities of responsible managers
- how responsible manager obligations interact with Director & Officers obligations (ss180 and 181 Corporations Act), AFSL Fit & Proper person, APRA Responsible Persons and FAR Accountable Persons responsibilities
- responsible manager requirements
- practical tips for responsible managers) based on my professional experience working across all sectors of the general insurance industry)
- the use of data to assist responsible managers to meet their obligations
- monitoring representatives (including employees, authorised representatives and service suppliers)
- an overview of financial service laws including, (a) Chapter 7 Corporations Act (b) ASIC Act Part 2 Div 2 (c) Insurance Contracts Act (d) Privacy Act and (e) Insurance Act
- areas of 2026 regulatory focus including, (a) claims handling (b) complaints (c) incidents and breaches (d) cash settlement fact sheets (e) pricing promises and (f) misleading & deceptive conduct
- the new GI Code of Practice and Insurance Brokers Code of Practice and how these dovetail with financial service laws.

The primary aim of the responsible manager training I provide is to ensure that your responsible managers have the appropriate knowledge and skills so that you have the competence to provide all of your financial services efficiently, honestly and fairly.
